CHRISTMAS

CHRISTMAS A DAY OF JOY AND HAPPINESS:

Across the world there are many holidays that are followed by different nations but perhaps there is one which has a universal appeal. That single day could perhaps be the favorite winter holiday in particular “The Christmas Day” which is primarily an important day celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Lord Jesus, as we all know spread the message of love and is the god head of the Christian religion. At a time when the world was divided into smaller religious groups, the birth of Christ heralded the beginning of a new world religion.

This new world religion declared that Jesus was the son of god and was here to spread a message of love and peace among the people on this planet. Soon this religion and its tenets were found appealing to people who readily accepted the teachings. Ever since then, the Christmas Day has been a day of great joy and happiness and hence widely celebrated. Over the few decades, the idea of celebrating this has caught on in a big way for people in general.

A day that is also celebrated for the commercial success it represents-

The day is celebrated with unique food items made at home, gifts being given and received and bright decoration of homes. For a major part of the western world, the weeks before Christmas meant arrival of big business opportunity. During this time people made huge purchases for friends and family and commercial houses cashed in on this soon.

This trend then caught on in various parts of the world in a big way and commercial houses spent advertising money to build on this. This led to further introduction of Christmas celebration even in places where non Christians lived. For instance in the state of Bengal, the day finds being celebrated with almost equal joy among the Bengali as would a Christians.

A big day for the children and family all over-

The day has become a landmark for festivities and gifts and the decoration of homes with glittering balls, stars and paper frills. The Christmas “CAKE” has more takers now than ever before, simply because people celebrated the happiness this day commemorates. The Indian term for this day is “Bara Din” which means a big day but the reason however is different for this name. Christmas typically is celebrated around the winter solstice day, that’s when the distance between earth and sun starts reducing.

It is from this day in the southern hemisphere that the daylight hours starts going up and the length of the day begins to get longer. However a festive day by any other name still spells great happiness for people in many parts of the world. Besides Christ, for the younger children it is Santa Claus that has become a very important symbol for this day. It is Santa who is credited for brining to them gifts they long for, whereas in reality the story is quite different. It is the parents and elders who gift these things and credits Santa Claus, thus adding an element of mystery and magic to this day. Overall it is a single day that is celebrated widely in many parts of the globe with equal fervor. Where for some, it is a day with a lot of religious significance for some it is simply a day of happiness and festivities.
